[Blog] A Man With a Plan?
Written by mwp on Friday, 6th Nov 2009 08:33

As I sat there on Saturday watching the dreadful game against Derby, I confess for a moment that I thought it might be better to lose again.

My thinking went along the lines of; If we win this and maybe the next one against Reading then maybe everyone will think Roy actually knows what he's doing. And you know what, I don't think he does.

If Roy had a game plan for the formation and players and I could see evidence of it on the pitch then I'd go with it all the way, because at least I could see he was trying to build something with a purpose. And maybe the lack of results were due to refinement of his plan and lack of execution on the players' behalf.

All we are witnessing every week is a random selection of players (and captains) in random formations. It was often said on this website and on the Naked Podcast that Jim didn't know his best 11 - I'm not sure Roy knows his best 22.

Finally, I've always been a Garvan fan, but like Roy (and Jim) lost some patience with his apparent laziness and lack of focus. But it says something when the Ireland U21 captain can't even get on the bench and our creative juices in midfield are being satisfied by Alan Quinn.

I want us to do well, really badly, but need a sign, any sign. Winning badly without a plan isn't it.

Will Reading be another team and formation... and captain?

Spot on mwp...i've been saying for weeks that all Keane's done is picked a different team game after game - more often than not with 5/6 changes - until finally actually managing a win...anyone on here could've done that and got paid a hell of a lot less in the process.

He needs to pick his best 11 and stick with them for a dozen games...the problem is he does'nt seem to know his best 11 -that's why I want him out and someone a lot more trustworthy with our team in their hands to come in.

I would love to see Alan Curbishley with Matt Holland given a nice big 5 year deal and told to build something special here like Sir Bobby did 40 odd years ago and like George Burley did 15 years ago - sadly that won't happen.

The question is , are we not big enough a club to sack a big name like Keane?
Time will tell I guess............

Hmm, Fergie did really well at Man Utd for the first few years didn't he? I somehow doubt that all managers who have that kind of start end up managing the best team in the country.

But hey, you are a glass completely full kind of guy, I know that.

However, again you are saying that because Roy has done it, it must be right. Because no human - especially one very inexperienced in a field - has ever made a mistake have they?

what im saying naa is that you cant assume as an outsider that picking teams is easy there are things that happen in football and im sure being the business man he is if ME was concerned then we wouldnt have keane at the moment.
What im saying is instead of slagging of selections and saying what you would do etc etc why wont he pick garvan etcetc, just watch the game and get on with life, look at the future then at the end of season look back and then say we're here becasue of keane - whether that be promotion midtabnle or bottom.
its way to early to be nagative way to early.
i remember with Burley being bottom half even bottom before rising. surely as a fan u rememeber that dont you

Trotter does seem to divide opinions. Personally I don't see it. He seems to wander around aimlessly. However, the stats with him in the side are better than without.

Average goals conceeded in; 1.7, out 2.

He has however played 11 games, so the out stat isn't as sound as the in stat.

Saying that, neither number is good.

PS. to the Carrow road comment .... I have 3 season tickets.

Hmm, so you don't believe we should come on here and state our opinion if we're not happy with things? Surely you don't really mean that do you?

And all I'm really trying to do is state the reasons why I believe we aren't doing well at the moment. As I've said repeatedly I'm not after Keane's blood.

And yes I do remember the year we struggled under Burley. But that did come after one season where we missed out on the play-offs by 1 point and 1 year where we'd been in the play-offs and lost on the away goal rule.

So, very different circumstances.

Another useless anti Keane rant. If you can't see what he is doing then either your blind or know nothing of football and suggest you go watch netball or something. If you ever want Ipswich to lose go and support the budgies at least you have something in common with them. nuff said.

WickedBlue: thanks for that constructive comment! Jeez.

You are very certain in your opinion and state it as if it is obvious fact, yet you give nothing to back it up. The blog, however much you disagree with it, at least attempts to back up his opinion with explanations.

It'd be nice if you could do the same rather than just post something abusive (though admittedly, not personal, thankfully).

Naa we are wrong in everything we say on here because we do not back the manager, a manager who has taken us to bottom! The more this goes on the more they all seem like idiots for critisizing us when infact what we say is more realistic!
I am adamant I want Keane out of this club and our results, transfers and team selection only back me up week in week out! Yet these cannot see it and chose to critisize us for wanting him out!
They say things like we have drawn 8, unbeaten in however many - IT DONT MATTER WE ARE BOTTOM< KEANE WILL NOT TAKE US INTO THE TOP HALF OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP, NOT THIS YEAR NOT NEXT YEAR THE SOONER HE GOES THWE BETTER

Did you turn up for the AGM and put your points to the CEO and the Manger, of course you didn't, well you have another chance at the London AGM to tell Cleggy, will you, of course you wont. Slagging off the manager with a keyboard is easy, try it to a mans face.

WickedBlue: Interesting thoughts. I wonder if you could expand on your analysis of Roy's strategy from Florida as opposed to my blind view from my seat in the ground ?

TractorRoy1: as I've said many times. People aren't on here to try to change things, they'e just voicing their opinions in a forum designed specifically for that purpose.

"I would love to see Alan Curbishley with Matt Holland given a nice big 5 year deal and told to build something special here like Sir Bobby did 40 odd years ago and like George Burley did 15 years ago."

And they would be a winning formula. Now, that would be something. Keane is only taking this club to League 1 and nobidy seems to give a toss he is doing so.

Well, I dunno about anyone else, but the 'dreadful' game against Derby was 1000% better than most of the rubbish we had to endure at home all last season!

Here's to 3 points against Reading ....

COYB!!!

Oooh, totally disagree with that Dobbie. I suspect that this season has numbed you.

Last season was awful at home (though not away) true, but Derby was most definitely no better and to claim it was 10 times better is utterly preposterous.

It would never be better to lose a game than win! It wont necessarily lead to the manager being sacked as only Evans can do that, if he decides Keane is here for rest of season then he will be whatever the results are. Town losing games hurts the club and all of us too much for any of us 2 ever think it might be better than a win
